Making this a kinder world

By Jamey Scally of Monkley-Designs-Jewelry

I don't know about the rest of you, but I personally feel like the world has become slightly detached - cold in a way.
To me, it has grown to a proportion that is physical, I feel it inside and I don't like it.

I think I have found something that helps tho. It is simple really and once you do it a few times, you don't even have to think about it. Be careful, it be habit forming and contagious!

Try being kind to all those you come in contact with. Say hello when you make eye contact with a stranger on the bus or crossing the street - acknowledge their presence. It's the right thing to do. Say "thank you" (and mean it) to the check out clerk where you shop, at the gas station at a fast food restaurant. I realize these people are "doing their job" but that doesn't mean you can't appreciate that they just helped you and acknowledge them for it.

Yes, I know that homeless and people asking for change can be bothersome, you may even feel they deserve it (if you thought that through, you'd see nobody deserves that). But anyway, would it kill you to hand them a cigarette? After all you have an entire pack...not to mention when was the last time you dealt with being in a really tough situation without having a smoke? Think about it.

Or yes, give them the change in your pocket. You are going home (inside) to sit down, go through your stocked kitchen eat a snack then have dinner.... you get the idea. That "panhandler" may have children, but almost certainly hasn't had a real meal in who knows how long. Think about it.

All I am really trying to say is treat others with the kindness & respect you would like. Take the high road maybe doing the kind or thoughtful instead of the "correct" or easy thing.

Buy a neighbor some flowers, tell your friends you love them, love yourself. I have noticed people always saying to me "wow, there are nice people left in the world". Kind of sad that the statement can even be said, don't you think?

I guess my point is each and every one of us can and do make a difference. Be kind. Pass it on.
